SKIN AND THE LIFE CYCLE
Since a lot of acne skin conditions and diseases are not age specific, they will not
be talked about here but will be talked about later. Certain conditions can
spring out in a persons life cycle. Acne for example, occurs most frequently in
children but however can occur in other adult phases.
With the ever-diminishing ozone layer, it is vital to begin sun protection at an
early age. It is estimated that 80% of a person's lifetime, sun damage occurs
before the age of 20. Harvard University states in its study, that it only takes
one severe sunburn before the age of 18 to double your risk of developing
malignant melanoma. The fairer the skin, the bigger the risk. So extra special
care should be exerted with White children who have blonde or red hair. However
sunscreen should be used on all kids. Hats are very important, since 85% of all
skin cancer, occurs in the head and neck region. Make sure you have SPF 15 or
higher on you. (SPF stands for sun protection factor) Always monitor your sons
or daughters sun exposure.
I could go on and talk about warts, ringworm, and skin rashes,
and adults who have noncontiguous skin diseases such as Eczema,
Alopecia Areata, Angiomas, but I would like to get on with our
discussion on skin care. I might come back to these later.
